In 2021, a manufacturing veteran and a smart-sensor innovator recognized the same broken promise: traditional IoT gave factories endless data but zero certainty. Maintenance teams were drowning in alarm fatigue, not preventing failures. Predictive maintenance remained locked behind data science expertise that most facilities simply did not have.

Drs. Yun Yao and Jean-Samuel Chenard saw that something had changed. Energy-efficient hardware, reliable wireless protocols, and high-capability AI had finally converged. The gap between raw sensor data and real answers was closeable — but only if the intelligence layer was designed from the ground up to serve the factory floor, not the algorithm.
